Thank you Elmer’s for sponsoring this post. All opinions expressed are my own.
Not too long ago we posted our Galaxy Slime which was our first slime recipe, we have since made so many other variations including this one we’re sharing today. We decided to test out some fluffy slime recipes and came up with the perfect mixture for fall….Fluffy Pumpkin Slime! This may be our favorite slime recipe yet! In this recipe I added in some pumpkin scented oil which is optional, but if you decided to use any scents make sure to get unscented shaving cream. For storage we made our own DIY Jack-0-Lantern mason jars using construction paper and glue to store our slimes in. These would be perfect to make for favors for your child’s Halloween classroom parties or just for fun! If you’d like to find even more slime inspiration visit Elmers.com/slime.
Making slime with Elmer’s glue is the most kid-friendly and fun project to make at home! If you want to learn how to make fluffy slime too, see below! We have simple step by step instructions and tips for you.
Fluffy Pumpkin Slime Recipe For Kids
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR FLUFFY PUMPKIN SLIME:
- 1/2 Cup Elmer’s White Glue
- Unscented Shaving Cream
- Orange Food Coloring
- Mason Jar
- Black Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Saline Solution
- Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
- Pumpkin Scented Oil optional
*Your results will vary if you substitute ingredients, and in some cases, slime might not form at all. Of special importance is the use of Elmer’s White Glue for quality, stretchy slime!
How to Make Homemade Fluffy Pumpkin Slime:
1.Add 1/2 cup of Elmer’s white school glue and 4 cups of shaving cream to a bowl. Mix well and then add in a some drops of your orange food coloring. Stir to mix in the color. Optional: You can add in a few drops of pumpkin scented oil after you mix in the food coloring.
2. Next stir in 1/4 tsp of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Then add contact solution about 1 Tablespoon at a time and mix.
3. Keep adding a little more contact solution and mixing until your slime begins forming into a ball-like form as you mix. You’ll notice this is when it starts to turn into slime and becomes less sticky. It will begin coming off the sides of your container and sticking together.
If your slime is still sticky add some more saline solution by starting small and adding a little as you go and continue to knead it. The slime will take on a fluffy marshmallowy consistency that is so addicting to play with!
When you’re finished you’ll want to store your slime in an air tight container. Or have the kids create their own jack-o-lantern jars by cutting out the faces from black construction paper and using some Elmer’s glue to glue their faces to the mason jars. This can be a super fun family activity, and perfect for a Halloween Party!

How much pumpkin slime does one batch make? I would like to be able to fill small mason jars for 16 children. Will two batches be enough to do so? Thanks so much!

YES! THIS QUESTION! Please reply! Thank you!

we make slime all the time. even though you are adding 4 cups of shaving cream, the cream has air in it and it will only end up being about 3 to 3 1/2 cups when you’re done. so, it depends on the size of your mason jars.
fyi, if it turns out sticky you can add clear laundry detergent to it and work that in (we use arm and hammer, but that’s blue and this is for making orange slime). start with drizzling just a teaspoon in at first. also, if after working and working it, your slime seems runny just add a little more contact solution. good luck 🙂

Looking for the answer to this question as well!

If you make the recipe as listed it’ll come out to about the size of a cantolope. Divided in half two softballs. I imagine you could get about six small balls out of it. Hope that helps!

We’ve made this slime today and my kids have played with it non-stop for about an hour now. They’ve pulled, stretched and balled it up. It has reduced in size DRAMATICALLY from when we first finished making it. It’s much less fluffy now, so that may also be a factor when people are considering amounts.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing! We are hoping to use this in our classroom

I’d love to know the answer, too. I’m hoping to do it for a class party.

love can’t wait to try it.

Where do i get saline soloution?
Alison Sehstedt says
Walmart!!
martha reinhard says
the saline solution shown in the picture is the generic “contact solution” you can buy at walmart. we use the one from dollar tree. either works fine 🙂
Danusia says
Pharmacy – it’s cheap. You can buy a few ml in a small plastic vial or 500ml bottle.
Emma G says
WOW!! your right that’s cheap!!
Jessica says
It’s just contact solution — any grocery store or pharmacy.

Tried this today with my 3 1/2 year old. Worked out to the perfect consistency! He loves it. We play on wax paper and it did stain, so I wouldn’t keep it in or on anything you wouldn’t want stained.
Rachel Wofford says
How much did it make approximately?
Deanne says
How much does this make?
Lisa says
We have tried this 4 times and it never becomes slime. My daughter is so disappointed. 🙁 We tried adding more baking soda, less shaving cream, more contact solution (ended up using almost the entire bottle), and stirred for nearly 45 minutes. We used exactly the same ingredients as posted. I don’t understand what we are doing wrong.
Melanie Phillips says
Same for us today. 🙁 Used Elmer’s white school glue, Barbasol unscented shaving cream, A&H baking soda and Clear Care rinsing solution, and stirred and stirred and stirred. Tried adding extra of everything except the shaving cream and it’s just unsticky fluff. Sooo disappointed.
Christina says
How many cups of shaving cream can you get out of one can shaving cream?
Diana says
How long does the slime last? I would like to make it and mail it to my grandsons.
ivy says
How long does this keep? Could I make it the day before and keep it for the kids to play with the next day?
Natalie says
Where do I find the pumpkin oil?
Adeline says
Just made this recipe and it did not even get a bit sticky.
Dana Vicellio says
Is the recipe here for one making of slime or can it be for two children?
Amanda Zuccarini Johnson says
We loved the unsticky fluff!! My kids (5 & 2.5) have played with it for over an hour now!
