How I Became A Happier Stay At Home Mom

October 10, 2016 by Jackie Cravener

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Famous Footwear for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Being a mother is the most demanding and rewarding job to have. We wear many hats and we’re often left feeling overwhelmed and completely burned out while literally running on empty and having very little to give to our family. We all know that self-care is essential for happiness and spending at least 15 minutes a day by yourself is vital to give you time to just be, recharge, and reset for the day.

With fall here, I’ve found myself even busier than usual trying to juggle the kids in school, sports, and managing everything at home. Taking care of yourself is part of taking care of the kids. You want them to get the best of you… not what’s left of you, which is why I set out to put my best foot forward to work on myself and give my kids the best part of me. Here are some of the changes that I’ve made and what’s worked for me! famousfootwear-2-copy

What I Changed That Made Me A Better Mom

Count Your Blessings – It’s easy to get caught up in everything going on in your life and getting in over your head with bills, things not going as planned, house projects, or stress from work. Days like this you need to sit down and write down all of the positive things you have in your life and look at the glass half full rather than half empty. It’s hard to complain and stay miserable when you’re thinking about all the good things in your life like your kids, a roof over your head, food on the table, etc.

Get Up Early – There’s just something about waking up in the morning when the house is still quiet and I can actually enjoy my coffee hot, check up on emails, or even catch a tv show uninterrupted. Sometimes that time alone is all I need to motivate me for the day.

Savoring The Moment – Step away from the computer and phone, and get out with the kids.  As I have been using the computer less, I have been striving, to really savor the time I have with my kids.  They will be 5 before I know it, entering kindergarten.  My time at home with them is dwindling. Luckily right now preschool is only half day but next year will be a full day of school and it’ll be here before I know it.

Treat Yourself – I don’t know about you but anytime I try to go shopping for myself even with something in mind, I always come out of the store with one bag (if I’m lucky) for myself and 20 other bags for my kids. I rarely ever splurge on myself but it is much needed. Any girl will tell you how good they feel with a new outfit or new pair of shoes it’s an instant confidence booster.

When I took the kids school clothes shopping and we stopped to get shoes at Famous Footwear I fell in love with the Nike Flex 2016 RN Running Shoe. I’ve been eyeing up a new pair of running shoes because I’ve been wanting to take more time to work out so I took the splurge and bought them! And of course because Little J wanted me to match his new Nike’s. famous-footwear-7 Being that I’m constantly on the go anyway I always prefer comfy clothes. These Nike Flex 2016 RN Running Shoe’s are not only so cute but pair great with all of my casual outfits too! So they’re perfect for working out, grocery shopping, Little J’s tee balls games, or just trying to keep up with my two kids.

famous-footwear-1 Exercise – Part of taking care of yourself is taking care of your health. Squeeze in a few workouts a couple days a week and you’ll notice a dramatic change in your overall confidence and mood. I know as a mother, most of us find it near impossible to find the time but what’s helped me find the time is by having the kids join. If I can’t get any alone time that day for the gym then the kids and I take a trip to the playground and I workout there, or find a trail, or take a walk in the park. My new Nike Flex 2016 RN Running Shoes have been the perfect shoe for working out, it offers breathability and natural motion for a comfortable and stylish fit. dsc_0392
