Being a mom is a lot of work! You have the task of juggling your family life and your career, and sometimes in doing that, you forget to take some time off for yourself. It’s normal to feel a little guilty for wanting to have some me time but, working yourself out and being burnt out would not make you productive either. It is, therefore, crucial to get some self-care once in a while. Here are some tips you can try to practice some much-needed self-care.
- Take care of your physical and mental wellbeing
Your mental and physical health must be in good condition for you to be an exceptional mum. So, ensuring that you seek medical attention when needed, eating healthily, and exercising are self-care practices that are beneficial to your wellbeing. You should also get as much sleep as possible. Listen to inspirational and motivational talks, learn more about motherhood, and, when needed, seek the help of a therapist.
- Look good
You are probably wondering: “Look good for who?” Well, for you. As they say, when you look good, you feel good. As a mum, you might not have the number of hours you’d like to get ready. But you do not have to do much to look good. Simply going out to get a manicure and pedicure, or to the salon for a new hairstyle is enough. You can also try your hands on a 5-minute makeup routine, to get done within 5 minutes, rather than in hours, since you do not have that luxury. YouTube and Pinterest provide you with countless beauty routines and hacks you can try. Aside from this, take time to get that spa treatment you’ve been postponing. Maybe you would want to remove unwanted hair; do your research to debunk the common laser hair removal myths and get to it!
- Get connected
It is easy to lose touch with other family members and friends. But if leaving home is the problem, try having a video call conversation with an old friend or family. You can also get a trusted family member to take care of your little ones, or if you have older children, you can ask them to babysit so that you can have a fun time with your friends for a while. Some time out with friends would be right for you to unwind. You can even plan playdates with other mothers in your circle so that you can keep your children entertained while you connect.
- Have a lazy day
Sounds impossible, right? Well, once in a while, you will have to put on your lazy pants, grab a snack and binge-watch your favorite show or have a movie day. You can also take the time to read a book, declutter your closet, or make DIY crafts with your children; it doesn’t always have to be unproductive.
The truth is, you never stop being a mum. But to keep being the best mom that you are, you need to take a few days off at a time to take care of yourself. So, get some needed self-care with these four tips.
