Today we’re talking art kits and what to include in them. Besides including the typical art materials in my children’s art kits, I love to include fun creative resources like art books that ignite the creativity in little ones. These can be anything from kids origami books, drawing books, and paper craft books. To give you some ideas here’s a list of some of our favorites, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway below for a chance to win some of our favorite kids art books valued at $80!!
These are general ideas to get you started. Pick and choose the ones that you think would best suit your child by browsing all of Dover Publications children’s books here. And use discount code WJAH at checkout for a 25% discount code!
Kid-agami – The Kid-agami book was SO much fun! The book includes easy-to-make animals in the kirigami style, in which paper is both cut and folded. They’ll improve their concentration and fine motor skills, too. And the end result, are fun new paper toys the kids can play with. The Kid-agami Jungle Animals book shows you how to fold a dozen individual jungle-dwelling animals, including a giraffe, gorilla, gazelle, zebra, and other critters. Aside from the jungle animals, there are also sea life and dinosaur Kid-agami books available as well. Buy it here: Kid-agami Jungle Animals.
Art From Simple Shapes – Although the age suggestion for this book is 2nd grad, it’s been PERFECT for my little preschoolers who are learning shapes and are interested in learning more about drawing. We’ve incorporated these shape animal drawings into some of our lessons we do at home. Buy it here: Art From Simple Shapes.
Fingerprint Drawing – Seriously, how cute is this fingerprint art that we made with our Fingerprint Drawing book. I loved making fingerprint animals when I was growing up, and my kids have ended up loving it too! This book is packed with simple fingerprint art that ranges from basic ideas that toddlers will love to try and more complex ones to challenge teens and adults, too. Buy it here: Fingerprint Drawing.
The Art of Stone Painting is such a great resource for the whole family! There are 30 different designs, each with before, during, and after photos so you can see the design process. Of course the art details in this book are not for younger kids, but it’s great for teens. We’ve turned these rock painting activities into something we do as a family project and the kids love helping!
We painted these lily pad, frogs, and lady bugs, and the kids painted the base of the rocks while I added into the smaller details. They turned out gorgeous and we’ve been adding to our project in our garden. Buy it here: The Art of Stone Painting.
Foldables – With this book you’ll be combing the fun of coloring and creating a fun paper toy! After coloring, follow simple, step-by-step directions for folding. You’ll transform your pictures into 15 fantastic keepsakes that look different no matter how many times you flip them around. Buy it here: Foldables.
Whoosh! Easy Paper Airplanes for Kids – Just like Foldables, this is another great paper craft book for kids. The book includes a dozen of designs a space shuttle, air rescue unit, princess plane, jungle jet, monster machine, and other playful motifs. Each plane is printed twice on perforated pages for a total of 24 planes and includes simple folding instructions to follow. Buy it here: Whoosh! Easy Paper Airplanes For Kids.
