My husband and I started having date nights with our son when we found out we were having a second child. We wanted to continue this with both of them as they got older, so we could spend quality time with each child as an individual. Obviously with my daughter being a baby I was limited to what we could do. So when my husband took our son out on their date night I made sure to spend quality time with her, usually having a simple date indoors like cuddling up with her favorite Minnie Mouse blanket and reading some of our favorite books, or watching a movie.
Now as much as I have love the first year, I’m always excited for after they turn one. Now that your babies a little more active and not napping all day they’re ready for some more exciting activities. My daughter and I, started our date nights when she was around 18 months and she’s loved them.
One day your child will be remembering you for these times. Just like I remember playing dress up with my mom and pretending to be my favorite Disney Princess or my favorite stuffed Minnie Mouse that I had to carry every where with me. She even saved my Minnie Mouse plush toy in a baby box that’s stored in her attic somewhere. My daughter even though she’s two, is starting to follow in my footsteps. There are days where she will only answer me if I call her by the Disney character she’s pretending to be or who she’s decided to dress up as for the day.
Once a month is a good start for special one-on-one dates with your child. Even if you just had some special bonding time with your daughter over Mother’s Day weekend, it’s important to continue to do your best at sharing, capturing, and making the most out of these short years.
Here are some of our favorite date ideas that are perfect to start with your little girl!
Mother and Daughter Date Ideas
Library – I love our library because they have a section dedicated for younger kids with things to play dress up and a comfy area to read, plus it’s free! Have your daughter pick some books and check out as many books as her heart desires. You can also check the reading schedule and see if they offer a children’s time that you can take her to, as well.
Movie Night – Head to the store and grab some snacks like making your own sundaes or something easy like popcorn. Pick out your favorite movies and let her stay up a little late with some snuggles on the couch. I love being able to pop in one of my favorite movies that I watched as a child like The Little Mermaid and watching it with my daughter just like I did with my mom. Sometimes to make movie night a little extra special I’ll pick out new pajamas or a blanket for her to give to her that night.
For our latest movie night my daughter was snuggling up with the Disney Baby Minnie Mouse Plush Blanket. You can find more Disney themed products such as sleepers for your next movie night, blankets, or must have baby products by clicking here: Disney Baby at Walmart
Spa Night – For a spa night with your little girl you can go to Wal-Mart and let her pick out a nail polish color for you. Then using her own little grooming kit you can give her a little “manicure” or “pedicure” by trimming her nails, do her hair, or even play dress up.
Play at an Indoor Gym – These are our go-to for rainy day’s when we just need to get out of the house. Ball pits are always a plus!
Picnic at the Park/ Playground – Make a lunch together and pick a special place to eat like your favorite park or the playground so you two can play together afterwards.
Out to Eat – Have your daughter pick her restaurant of choice. If she’s too young to really decide on her own pick a place that you know is her favorite and kid-friendly!
Attend a Play – Take them to a special event like the circus or Disney on Ice!
Zoo, Aviary, or Aquarium – Those are always a hit! What’s your favorite Mother and daughter date idea?
