We can all agree that motherhood can be a little overwhelming at times. Getting through motherhood requires some organization and planning, especially when you have multiple kids in sports, school activities, etc. My main goal this year was to become more organized and less stressed. And getting organized is the first step to de-stressing a household. I’ve been working on an organizational system that has worked best for me that I’m going to share. My goal was not to create a perfect life devoid of bumps and interruptions; but to smooth out what I could, create systems that help control the chaos and then learn to go with the flow when all else fails. To help kickstart your plan here are my organizing tips for busy moms.
1. Drop The Expectations – As mothers we hold enough weight on our shoulders trying to get it all done when there’s not enough time in the day. You need to remember that you’re only one and therefore there’s only so much you can do on your own. Work out a plan that suits you best.
2. Stock Up – Make your life as easy as possible by stocking up on the necessities. I’m all about making life simpler and cheaper and one big change that has made a huge difference in our house is buying bulk. For me the main thing I like to always have on hand with a toddler in the house is Pampers, because running out of those would be a disaster! So to reduce my stress levels and help our household budget we took advantage of the awesome deal going on at Sam’s Club. Right now, you can get an instant $10 off when you buy 2 Pampers products at Sam’s Club, making it easy to keep your babies comfortable and dry. Click here to check out the deal.
With extra diapers in stock, I always make sure that our changing baskets are filled. I keep one basket downstairs in the living room for quick changes or accidents and I like to always have an emergency diaper change basket in our car.
3. Paper – When you don’t have a system in place, you’ll most likely have a problem. My biggest problem was organizing school papers and bills. For organizing school papers I started using this system from Simplified Bee and LOVE it! It’s a great way to keep all of the schoolwork organized by grade. And for bills I solved our problem by putting together a command center like this one here, it has an area for incoming/outgoing mail, bills, calendar, and menu.
4. Establish A Routine – Establish a routine at the busiest and most important parts of your day. For us the mornings before school, right after school, and at bedtime are the key hours where chaos has the most tendency to happen. You can also include chores in your children’s routine. At our house, kids are responsible for making their keeping their room clean, picking up after themselves, and a few additional chores like helping with dishes, bathrooms, and more, depending on their age. For younger children we used this chore chart which is simple and provides pictures for them to understand what the chore is. It was a great way to get our toddler started on simple chores around the house when she wanted to help out like her big brother.
5. Donate – It’s hard to maintain a stress-free environment when you’re constantly surrounded by clutter. Make it at least a monthly routine to go through everything in your home and donate or toss what is unneeded. Make sure to get the kids involved in this too!
6. Plan Meals – Planning dinner was my biggest downfall because I’d constantly wait until the day of or the day before and it would have me running to the store to pick up last minute things I needed. Planning my meals ahead of time has been my biggest timesaver, my grocery shopping has been down to once a week instead of a few times a week.
