Love Bug Slime

January 21, 2018 by Jackie Cravener

Looking for an awesome non-candy idea for Valentine’s Day? These Love Bug Slime jars are perfect and the kids can help make them! We used baby food jars for the containers but if you don’t want to use glass you can always use some plastic containers with lids and they’ll work just as well. As for the slime recipe we used an easy 3 ingredient recipe that was enough to fill 4 baby food jars, so that will give you an idea on just how much to make.

Follow the directions below for Love Bug Slime.

How To Make Love Bug Valentine Slime

Materials For Love Bug Jars:

  • Baby Food Jars
  • Paint
  • Glitter (Optional)
  • Googly Eyes
  • Pom Poms
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Glue
  • Heart Shapes
  • Modge Podge

Materials For Slime:

  • Glitter Glue
  • Baking Soda
  • Contact Solution
  • Bowl

Directions For Love Bug Jars:

For the jars I found these little glitter heart cutouts at the Dollar Tree, you could use just regular construction paper for this step and cut out your own. Glue two of your hearts to the bottom of the jar for the love bugs feet.

Next for the lid you’ll use your paint and cover it with one coat then sprinkle on your glitter. Once that has dried take some modge podge to seal the glitter onto your lid. Then take a pipe cleaner and twist it to curl the antenna, and glue it to the top of your lid. You can also attach some pom poms to the top of the antenna with some hot glue. Finally, glue on some googly eyes and a pom pom for the face onto your jar.

While your jar is drying you can start the slime!

Gather your bowl, popsicle stick to mix, contact solution, baking soda, and your glitter glue.

Start by emptying your 6 oz glue bottle into your bowl. Then mix in 1/2 tbsp of baking soda.

Next, mix in 1 1/2 tbsp of contact solution. When you stir in the contact solution you’ll notice it will start to stick together into a clump. When it does this you’ll take it out and knead the slime for a few minutes. This step is messy and it will be sticky, after a few minutes of kneading the slime will be come less sticky.  Don’t worry if the consistency isn’t changing, simply add more contact solution if it is too sticky!

Once your slime is ready you can store them in your Love Bug jars and they’re ready for your valentine!
