DIY Cheap Command Center
One of our New Year’s resolutions this year was to start off by being more organized and saving money so with those two goals in mind, we created this super cute and budget friendly family command center. You may be thinking that making a stylish DIY command center would be extremely hard to do and expensive, but with this Dollar General tutorial I’ll show you step by step how we made this budget friendly version for under $30! All of the items in this post were purchased from Dollar General except for the mail slot organizer and the scrapbook paper, we had those on hand.
The first step to making this beautiful yet budget friendly organization board was to make a trip to your local Dollar General store to pick up the following items.
#4- 5×7 photo frames
#3 – dry erase boards with makers attached ( I liked these because they were $1 and had the erasers attached)
#5- sets of command small strip hangers or magnets
#1- tall crystal light plastic container
#1- $0.98 Decorative bag (any patter or color you prefer)
We started with designing a fun pen holder that we upcycled from a Crystal Light container. First you’ll empty the container and remove the plastic wrap. Unfold the gift bag and wrap the container with the decorative gift bag, cut this to the length of the container and glue the paper onto the container then apply a magnet or command strip to the back of it. For the dry erase boards we simply removed the backing from the photo frames and inserted the scrapbook paper ( keep in mine you will want a light background color so your able to see your writing). After re-purposing the photo frames you’ll apply the command small strip hangers to the back of the photo frames you can add a little dab of hot glue for more support and then they can hang on your fridge. I tested a small area of our stainless steel fridge with the command strips and they left nothing behind! Next remove the dry ease markers from the dry erase board and place into your homemade pen holder.
Now I had a metal mail organizer already in the house so I had added this on to it so there’s more storage but that is your option if you would like to add one or not. You now have a homemade budget friendly command center for your home. Remember this a dry erase board, use your imagination, write a to do list, a grocery list, a chore list or even a reminders for the kids.
It’s amazing what Dollar General has to offer with a little imagination! Save on home essentials with Dollar General!
