One of my New Year’s resolutions was to live a healthier lifestyle for my family. As a mother of two toddlers it’s very easy to want to take the easy way out and order take out or pizza when you’ve had a long a day. I’ve started off the year with some easy and healthy meal plans, along with some healthy freezer meals for those days when I don’t feel like cooking.
To get the kids excited about eating more fruits and vegetables this year I’ve also started a My Healthy Choices punch card. I have seen a huge difference in my kids when I focus on the positive, compliment them and use reward systems. Each time they do something active like riding their bikes, or choosing a nutritious snack they can punch a hole in their punch card.
The punch card has 13 circles for them to punch out. When the kids get to 13, instead of rewarding them with a treat they’re rewarded with an experience. For instance, my son picked to go ice skating with the family for his reward.
Simply print, cut, and have them sign their name!

The hardest part about adding in more fruits and veggies for your kids is having picky eaters. I’ve found when I let my picky eaters choose what they want to eat they’re more willing to try it. So I’ve started having nutritious self serve options for the kids. Letting your kids choose their own snacks encourages independence and promotes good decision making skills. Not to mention, it makes it easier for mom too!
My secret snacking weapons are:
String Cheese: Milk does a body good, they’re full of calcium and vitamin D. Organic String cheese is always a fantastic snack option.
Veggie Bags: Fill a small snack bag with your kids favorite veggies, make sure they’re all precut!
Super Squeeze Fruit Pouches: These are one of my kids favorites and I love how convenient they are. The mixed berry burst is our favorite flavor and made with a creamy blend of real fruit and milk!
Organic Milk Boxes: I like to have options for the kids to drink to so that they’re not drinking too much juice. Shelf stable milk boxes are a great alternative. Horizon has a few different flavor options too that the kids love from vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
Organic Sandwich Crackers: You can make your own meat and cheese cracker sandwiches or sandwich crackers like Horizon’s Organic Cheese Sandwich Crackers.
