My kids start school in a few weeks and I’ll officially have a Kindergartener and a Preschooler this year. Being that this is the first year my daughter’s going to school she was SO excited to get to go school shopping with her big brother. I love back to school shopping because it’s the perfect time to stock up on some amazing deals for craft supplies.
Back to school shopping this year has been such a breeze because Walmart has had all of our supplies in stock already and with a large variety to pick from. I got all of the lists checked off in one shopping trip and I got the best prices! We ended up stocking up on some extra crayons, pencil sharpeners, and glue that we used to create these colorful Melted Crayon Turtle Suncatchers.
If you’re looking for another way to make back to school shopping easier this year Walmart offers online grocery pickup. You can shop from the comfort of your own home and order your groceries and your school supplies. There are now hundreds of back-to-school staples available for Online Grocery Pickup shopping (a 150 percent increase*) so customers can stock their fridge with lunchroom favorites at the same time they shop for supplies and have them delivered right to their car. Once you’re ready to pick up you’ll simply use the app to check in and pull up to one of the marked parking spaces, and within a few minutes your items will be brought out to you and put away in your trunk…without even getting your kids out of the car! This has saved me on SO many trips it’s been such a lifesaver.
Aside from Walmart offering Grocery Pickup, they also offer Same Day Pickup on thousands of items and have now integrated TeacherLists to make school shopping even easier. This will enable customers like you to connect with classrooms to get school supply lists directly from teachers – so this isn’t a best guess supply list; it’s the real deal from the teachers themselves.
Follow the tutorial below to get started!
Melted Crayon Turtle Suncatcher Craft
Supplies Needed To Make Turtle Suncatcher:
- Crayons
- Sharpener
- Wax Paper
- Glue
- Googly Eyes
- Iron
- Green Construction Paper
Directions:
This craft is perfect to use up old stray crayons that you may have lying around, however new works work too. You’ll start off by picking out the colors you’ll want for your snail and then tearing off all over the paper so that it’s easier to sharpen. Next you can start sharpening using either a crayon or pencil sharpener or even a hand grater.
Then gather up all your shavings into one place that’s accessible to the kids like a bowl or paper plate. Then lay down some wax paper and let them sprinkle their shavings onto it.
Next place another piece of wax paper on top. For this next step you’ll be using an iron so it’s for adult’s only, place a towel under your wax paper and above then slowly iron the paper. Make sure to check every few seconds to see if your crayon shavings have completely melted. Once they’ve melted then set aside to dry.
Once it’s dry, then trim it into a circle and set aside. Then take your green construction paper and cut out the head, tail, arms, and legs for your turtle and glue them to your circle wax paper. Finally attach the googly eyes and your finished!
The kids loved seeing how their melted crayon sun catchers turned out hanging in the doorway!
