We’ve used this puffy paint recipe in a few of our crafts, and every time we use it my son always mentions how the paint reminds him of icing on a cake. Which is why we decided to pair it with our cupcake craft to go along with one of the books from our favorite series, If You Give A Cat A Cupcake.
Puffy Paint Cupcake Kids Craft
Materials Needed:
- Buttons
- Shaving Cream
- Glue
- Cardstock
- Cupcake template (optional)
- Marker
Directions:
To start you’re going to take your cardstock paper and draw a cupcake shape to cut out. There’s a free template available that you can also cut out and use for this step! Download here: Cupcake Template.
Next you’re going to mix up your puffy paint for the cupcake’s icing. Mix equal parts of shaving cream and glue together. Then depending on if you’d like color you can also mix in a few drops of food coloring.
Finally you can ice your cupcake with the puffy paint. After you’ve iced the cupcake, you can then decorate it! We used some colorful buttons for the sprinkles but you can also use anything from pom poms, glitter, or sequins.

Can the puff paint be made in advance?
