Treasure Hunting - Geocaching fun! A free summer activity the kids will love!

This weekend we got into one of our favorite summer activities Treasure Hunting, in other words known to many people as Geocaching. Geocaching combines hiking and treasure hunting with the use of a GPS. You will need to download their app or visit the official Geocaching website to find the closest Geocache near you, you’ll be surprised to find that they are everywhere! When doing this activity with kids make sure to check the Geocache’s  level of difficulty and terrain before heading out to find it. For instance, in the picture below there’s an easy beginners one we do with our son and as you can see its level of difficulty and terrain are low. Once you choose the geocache you want to find in your area follow it on your geocaches GPS app and follow the clues some of them provide!

Before we headed out to find the geocaches on our list for the day I always make sure to pack the essentials for outdoor play with a two year old. For this activity we always include our snacks for when the geocaching fun is over, water, our cell phones that have the geocaching app downloaded so we can hunt for our treasure, and our absolute must have are Wet-Nap antibacterial hand wipes which make cleaning up messy outdoor fun easy! They’re strong, soft, and moisturize with aloe!

The few geocaches that were on our list were around our local playground and in the woods surrounding it. When we do find our treasure Jace always makes sure to put in one toy if he decides to take something out of the cache that he wants and then we sign the book that’s found in most cache’s to record that you found it. It’s always fun to see who’s all been there and where everyone’s from!

Our first one was buried pretty far back in the woods around a bunch of mud but he still found it!

Our second geocache was a little easier to find, it was in a huge tire in the obstacle course in the playground. Because this cache had something my son wanted out of it he swapped the toy with his toy gun. After spending the day geocaching and playing outside we cleaned up for our snack at the playground. My son isn’t like most boys he HATES getting dirty, so needless to say we always have Wet-Nap hand wipes around (the citrus scent is our favorite)!

I’ve always wanted to do something like this…I think I will enlist the help of my brother and nephew to make my geocaching dreams come true. They both would like this too.

Thanks for the coupon! I could definitely use those on our outings! I’ve only recently read about geocaching – it sounds interesting, but I’m such a chicken out in nature! LOL Every bug, bird and little thing that comes my way makes me jump 🙂

This sounds so fun and that precious little one sure looks like he had a great time. We have never really done Geocaching before, but it would be something that my family or my kids would enjoy. Thanks!
